Lack of funds reason for poor infrastructure in Ghana – Henry Asante Twum
Henry Asante Twum, Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), attributes the deteriorating condition of the country's sports facilities to a lack of funding.Stadiums across Ghana have fallen into disrepair and are no longer deemed suitable for hosting FIFA and CAF-sanctioned events.“The pitch is one, the washrooms are not the best, sometimes the stands, the seats are dirty,” Asante Twum told Joy Sports.“When you ask, it boils down to the same reason, the fact that they [NSA] do not have the funds to maintain these facilities.“From Tamale to Accra to Baba Yara to Sekondi to Cape Coast, the problem is the same," he added.Ghana's major stadiums include the Baba Yara Stadium, Accra Sports Stadium, Cape Coast Stadium, and Tamale Sports Stadium.Recently, attention has shifted to the newly built Legon Sports Stadium, which has hosted several significant events since its use in the African Games, including the Women’s FA Cup final, Men’s FA Cup final, and CAF U-17 WAFU B Cup of Nations.
