I hope for a positive outcome for the NDC – Mahama congratulates UK Labour Party

Former President and Presidential Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has sent a congratulatory message to the Prime Minister-elect of the United Kingdom(UK) Keir Starmer following his emphatic victory in yesterday’s general elections.

In his congratulatory message, John Mahama noted that he looked forward to a strong partnership between Ghana and the UK, adding that he is hopeful that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will emerge victorious in December 2024 just like the Labour Party which won a landslide from the opposition.

“Congratulations to PM Keir Starmer and the UK Labour Party on their landslide victory in the British elections. The people have spoken, and I look forward to a strong partnership between our two countries. Like the UK, Ghana will also have elections soon, and I hope for a positive outcome for my party and our continued good relations with Labour,” John Mahama wrote.

Yesterday, the people of the UK – England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – voted to elect their members of Parliament. Though several other parties took part in the election, the battle has always been between the Labour Party and the Conservatives. Even though the Labour Party had been predicted to win, the margin of win is staggering.

So far, the Labour Party has won 412 seats out of a total of 650 with the incumbent Conservatives winning 121 seats. The win means that Keir Starmer is the Prime Minister elect as stipulated by the UK Parliamentary System of Government.

The official announcement of the results will be made tomorrow, July 5, 2024.
