The government has reiterated its commitment to settle outstanding claims with global commodities trader, Trafigura, following a letter circulated in the media today that suggests governmental inaction on the matter.
In a statement released by the Ministry for Finance, the government expressed surprise over the unauthorised circulation of a letter discussing ongoing negotiations with Trafigura.
The letter, which surfaced on social media, allegedly implied delays in the execution of a Settlement Agreement.
However, the Ministry for Finance has clarified that negotiations had taken place over several rounds and the necessary arrangements for payment had already been made.
“The Government of Ghana remains fully committed to honouring its obligations under the Settlement Agreement with Trafigura, with the aim of bringing this matter to a definitive conclusion,” the statement said.
The Ministry for Finance assured the public and stakeholders that the government is diligently working towards settling the claims and remains on course to fulfill its financial commitments.
