Ghana’s basketball team clinched the title at the 4th Africa Basketball Festival, defeating France 62-49 in a thrilling final at the University of Ghana in Accra.
Held from 24-27 October, the tournament brought together top teams and showcased the continent’s growing talent.
Ghana set the pace early, opening their campaign with a decisive 49-36 win over Liberia.
They then went on to outclass Togo 56-46, securing a spot in the semifinals against regional rivals Nigeria.
In a high-stakes showdown, Ghana powered through with a 64-51 victory, setting up the final clash against a formidable French side.
France had made headlines after an impressive 72-24 win over China, the highest score of the tournament, but faced a resilient Ghanaian defence in the final.
Ghana’s well-coordinated plays and defensive prowess kept France at bay, leading to a well-deserved 62-49 victory that left the crowd roaring.
Liberia, Ghana’s opening opponent, demonstrated the continent’s rapid basketball development, securing a 45-42 win over the United States in the third-place playoff to take bronze.
The festival wasn’t just about basketball; the event pulsed with African culture, featuring dynamic performances from Ghanaian music duo DopeNation and popular acts from across the continent.
