Ghana develops curriculum for teaching of sign language in schools, says Duorinaah

The National Council for Curriculum Assessment, (NaCCA) is currently developing a curriculum for teaching sign language in all schools across the country, Juventus Duorinaah, Ghana’s first hearing-impaired lawyer has said.

The development and teaching of the sign language curriculum is part of moves by the government towards an inclusive society.

Speaking through an interpreter on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (31 October), Duorinaah called for effective implementation of the curriculum across the country.

“… I’m very happy to inform you that NaCCA and the government have started developing a curriculum for teaching of sign language in all schools.”

“That is good news and we have to celebrate that. And visiting other countries, they don’t have such opportunities. Ghana has moved ahead in terms of this,” he said.

”What’s important is for the government to adopt this and then make the implementation across the country, it will help us all to have an inclusive society,” Dourinaah said.
