Comedian OB Amponsah has taken a subtle jab as media practitioners, especially radio and television journalists, for promoting gambling(lottery) in the performance of their duties.
He argued that media practitioners have become lotto agents who use their media houses as lotto kiosks to get people to stake lotto.
For him, practices in the media such as sending a much smaller amount to a short code so as to win a huge amount of money amounts to lottery.
“Sending a Radio/TV station 50 cedis so you can win 2000 cedis nyinaa yɛ lotto.
The lotto kiosk is the media now and the lotto agents are your TV and radio favorites,” he wrote.
Of late, beyond advertising for lottery and sports gambling, media practitioners actively engage in convincing their audiences to engage in one game of chance or another.
Many morning shows on both television and radio use presenters to persuade their viewers and listeners to try to win prizes by engaging in some sort of gambling.
