The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has a new home, with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art office complex by Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the Minister of Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions.
The ceremony, held on Friday (15 November), symbolised a pivotal step in the government’s commitment to enhancing the working conditions and efficiency of the commission.
Addressing attendees, Baffour Awuah underlined the government’s focus on creating an environment that supports workers and drives productivity.
“The government is committed to creating an enabling environment for workers to thrive and improve productivity,” he said.
The minister challenged the FWSC staff to uphold high standards in their work, urging them to justify the investment made in the facility.
“I am confident that the new edifice will give you the self-satisfaction you need to work in an efficient and effective manner,” he remarked.
“You can have the best of office buildings, but if the service is poor, it means nothing. I want to entreat staff to justify why the state invested in the facility.”
He also charged the management of the commission to develop a strong maintenance culture and proper allocation of funds to preserve the building’s quality.
The new four-story complex, built by First Beacon Architectural Limited, boasts cutting-edge facilities, including a 200-seat auditorium, negotiation rooms, offices for directors and units, a boardroom, and an ICT suite.
The fully government-funded project also features parking spaces, a kitchen, and training facilities to support the commission’s growing needs.
The Chief Executive of the FWSC, Benjamin Arthur, expressed gratitude to President Nana Akufo-Addo and key ministries for their support, singling out Baffour Awuah for his leadership.
“This new office complex is a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting fair wages and salaries in Ghana. We are grateful for this investment, which will enable us to better serve our stakeholders,” Arthur said.
He pledged to safeguard the facility, acknowledging that other agencies under the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations were yet to receive similar infrastructure.
“We are fortunate to have this facility. We know other agencies under the Ministry have not been fortunate to get such infrastructure, and we will protect and use it for the benefit of all,” he said.
Beyond the FWSC office, Baffour Awuah highlighted other investments in Ghana’s labour sector, including the commissioning of 16 public employment centres and the provision of 16 pickup vehicles for the Labour Department to enhance its operations.
The minister also noted that a new office building for his ministry has been completed near the Accra Sports Stadium, emphasising the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure across labour-related institutions.
