Five things you (probably) didn’t know about Chef Smith

The Guinnes World Records have refuted claims suggesting that Ghana’s Chef Ebenezer Smith is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

This is in reference to an official inquiry to GWR by Asaase Radio after Chef Smith held a news conference in Accra on Tuesday (2 July) to announce that he is the new record holder.

The Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith was on a mission to break the current Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time.

In the past few months, Ghana has witnessed several attempts to set new records for the esteemed Guinness World Records.

Among these notable attempts are Afua Asantewaa‘s impressive attempt to break the record for the longest singing marathon (singathon) by an individual, as well as chef Faila’s determined pursuit of cooking (cookathon), both of which have piqued the interest of many Ghanaians.

Here are five interesting facts about the millennium chef that you probably did not know: 

An international executive chef

Ebenezer Smith, also known as Millennium Chef Smith, is an international executive chef who is attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.

Graduate in Tourism and Hospitality Management 

Chef Smith, a graduate of National University’s College of Tourism and Hospitality Management in the Philippines, attempted to set a record for the longest cooking marathon by one person with a 360-hour challenge.

First application to GWR was rejected

Chef Smith applied to Guinness World Records in July of last year for permission to organise his cook-a-thon; however, his application was denied at the time. He, however, reapplied and it was finally approved in September.

Inspired by Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci

He explains that he was inspired to attempt the record last year after being inspired by Nigeria’s Hilda Baci. Despite facing initial disqualification in July, Chef Smith was granted approval. He emphasises that his timing coincides with Chef Faila’s attempt, which is entirely coincidental and not intentional.

Intends to set a record that is hard to break 

Chef Smith revealed that he wants to set a record that would be difficult to break.

“I originally planned to do 15 days but I have realised that people are coming up to break the record so I extended it to a month to make it difficult for anyone to break it.

“The support has been low but I get encouraged by the few individuals who pass by. I know people are back to work so they don’t have much time but their short presence is much needed to motivate me,” he stated.
