Every unprecedented dev’t under Akufo-Addo was negative—Gyampo

Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, has indicated that although a number of unprecedented events happened under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, they were always in the negative.

According to him, apart from running the biggest-sized government in Ghana’s history, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo could not do any meaningful reshuffle during his tenure.

“Biggest size government, everything unprecedented; he couldn’t downsize; he couldn’t do any meaningful reshuffle; he couldn’t do anything,” he said on Accra-based TV3.

Prof. Ransford Gyampo was reacting to the decision by the current President to reduce the number of ministries from 30 to 23.

“If you have a president who is reducing the number of ministries from 30 to 23 and says he’s going to run Ghana with 60 ministers and somebody is saying 60 is too small and some people are mocking him that he is going to run Ghana with just 60 ministers, they are ignorant.

It makes the point that if we do the necessary scrapping, realignment, and all that we can even run Ghana with 30 ministers. Most of the ministries that are created are needless job for the boys. You people used to tout yourself that before getting into power you have your money, you have your resources, you have your V8 and all that, so what do you need job for the boys for? We are talking about governing a country in a manner that brings about development,” he said.
