EC provides detailed explanation on decision to shred Ahafo and Volta ballot papers

Ghana’s Electoral Commission has provided insight into their decision to shred ballot papers meant for Ahafo and Volta Region.

In a statement shared via social media, the EC indicated that the decision to represent the ballot papers was due to their audit processes instituted at all printing houses responsible for printing ballot papers for the 2024 elections.

The commission indicated that per their audit, the printing house printing the Ahafo and Volta ballot papers encountered a number of challenges indicating that while printing the ballot papers had gone on seamlessly, the serialization which was supposed to be done through automated system to provide serial numbers based on a sequence, had gaps and as a result the printing house adapted manual system to fill in the gaps.

Upon a further assessment, the EC noted that the manual system was not full-proof and could therefore not be relied upon to produce accurate serialization of the ballots hence the decision to reprint the ballot papers.
