The Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified 11 presidential aspirants from contesting in the upcoming December general elections.
In a statement issued on Friday (20 September), the EC revealed that the candidates had failed to meet the requirements following a thorough review of their nomination forms.
One of the most significant omissions from the 2024 presidential ballot is the People’s National Convention (PNC), whose flagbearer Bernard Mornah failed to qualify.
This marks the first time the PNC will be absent from a presidential race since Ghana’s Fourth Republic began in 1992.
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has also been excluded for the first time since its establishment in 2012, with its candidate, Kofi Asamoah Siaw, failing to meet the EC’s criteria.
Among the other disqualified aspirants are Nana Stephens Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong, John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi, Samuel Sampong Ankrah, and Nii Amu Darko.
The list also includes Samuel Apea-Danquah, Janet Asana Nabla, and Desmond Abrefah.
Despite these disqualifications, 13 other candidates have successfully completed the nomination process and are set to contest in the 2024 Presidential Election.
