Disappoint all those campaigning to become running mates – NPP MP to Bawumia

Member of Parliament for the Asante-Akim North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Andy Appiah-Kubi has urged the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reject all names being bandied around as possible running mates.

He believes that these individuals rigorously campaigning and lobbying for the position are going against the constitution of the political party and should be taught a great lesson.

Andy Appiah-Kubi says unlike reports suggesting that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had settled on a running mate, he is yet to submit a name to the National Executive Council.

“We have had situations where the National Council has confirmed nominees or National Council have declined confirmation of nominees so it can be A or B. So for now we are waiting for the Flagbearer to exercise his mandate of nominating one of us as his running mate. I have heard various names being bandied about.

As I know, in seasons like this everyone wants to be heard so people are doing unnecessary campaigns. By our constitutional dictates are we supposed to campaign for selection? It says no. If I were the Presidential candidate I would decline the nomination of any one of them who are contesting and campaigning unconstitutionally to be recognized.

I would have disappointed them. I don’t appreciate the aggression people are putting into the campaign like that. It is unfair to the Presidential candidate. He must have the peace of mind to look through the army to select who to complement him. I haven’t heard any presidential candidate being confronted with campaigns as we have seen now,” he said.
