A native of the West Side who died in a collision on Monday morning is honored for both his talent and his kindness in mentoring future dancers.
Even after his untimely passing, Terrance Mitchell’s impact will endure, according to friends and family.
A new wave of Chicago street dance had Mitchell at its core. He developed a rough, angry, and unabashed style that was uniquely his own.
Delta Phi Delta Dancing Fraternity was Mitchell’s membership. His combination of passion and artistry inspired a new wave of dancers.
But Mitchell’s life was taken at the height of his skill, at the age of 29.
On the spot, he was declared deceased. After the incident, the Cicero ramp was blocked up while state police conducted their investigation.
Mitchell’s sister Jessica Nero remarked, “We didn’t think that the person who would bring life to life, life would be gone.”
Family members set off fireworks and released a sea of balloons in his Austin neighborhood. Mitchell’s passion for dance will always beat within them.
“He’s going to grab everyone now, saying, ‘You have to dance! You must dance! Where’s your energy, huh? Talk about it! “Pump it up!” exclaimed someone.
The ISP is looking into the incident.
It’s unknown why Mitchell struck that parked car at this time.
