The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as “Chairman Wontumi,” has confidently predicted Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s victory in the 2024 presidential election.
“Bawumia will be the next President of Ghana”, he declared while addressing an energised crowd in Oforikrom on Saturday (9 November).
“This election is a clear path to victory for the NPP. I urge each of you to go to the polling stations in large numbers, cast your votes, and stay vigilant to protect the ballot until Dr Bawumia is officially declared the next President of the Republic of Ghana. Remember, he is not in this alone—when you vote for Dr Bawumia, also cast your ballot to support the NPP parliamentary candidate, ensuring a united and strong leadership for our future”, he said.
The rally was part of Dr Bawumia’s campaign tour across the Ashanti Region. He aims to strengthen ties with the NPP’s support base and engage voters on his vision for Ghana.
In his remarks, Wontumi emphasized the achievements of the NPP under President Akufo-Addo and rallied supporters to carry that momentum into the upcoming election.
The regional chairman also encouraged supporters in the region to mobilize and remain steadfast in their support, urging them to show up in numbers on election day.
Worst president
Taking his turn to address the party supporters Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia launched a fierce critique against former President John Dramani Mahama, branding him as the “worst president” in Ghana’s history.
He called on Ghanaians to reject Mahama in the December polls, stressing that a vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would take the country backward.
Dr Bawumia further accused the NDC flagbearer of economic mismanagement during his previous term, alleging that his administration left the country in a state of hardship and instability.
“During Mahama’s tenure as president, Ghana faced an ongoing power crisis, commonly referred to as “dumsor,” which persisted for four years. This constant interruption in power supply severely impacted many local businesses, causing some to collapse. Additionally, his administration discontinued the allowances for teachers and nurses in training.”
“Under his leadership, the National Health Insurance Scheme and Ambulance Service also faced significant challenges, with both struggling to operate effectively”, he told the charged crowd.
“This clearly shows that John Mahama is the poorest-performing president in Ghana’s Fourth Republic… Whatever matters we have done better,” he asserted.
Dr Bawumia’s campaign in the Ashanti Region has seen enthusiastic responses from party faithful and undecided voters alike, as he continues to outline his plans to create jobs, improve infrastructure, and boost the Ghanaian economy.
