Bawku Central Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has suggested that the unrest in Bawku is partly caused by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He argues that some promises made by the governing political party is what has led to the volatility of the area.
Mahama Ayariga was speaking to Accra-based Woezor Television in Bolgatanga when he made this known.
Mahama Ayariga said, “As the people of Bawku are grappling with insecurity, which I believe was largely created by the promises of the NPP to my people”.
He continued, “The report that I have indicates from a very credible source that the National Security Minister is given GHC 18 million every quarter in the name of dealing with the security problem.”
Adding further “He gets a cheque of GHC 6 million in the name of dealing with the Bawku problem while the people of Bawku are wallowing in poverty, are sleeping under curfew, and as a result of a situation created by their misrepresentation to my people, they sign a fat cheque of GHC 6 million and take it home in the name of dealing with the problem”.
