Article: 10 days to elections! This came so early!

And just like all elections since 1996, the choice comes down to the two parties;NPP/NDC. We could have the closest presidential contest ever! However, I have observed that something seems different in this elections and you need to pay attention to notice!

In all elections I’ve witnessed since 2008, incumbent governments/candidates are mostly tagged as corrupt, and opposition elements mostly capitalise on same to enhance their electoral fortunes.

In 2008, we saw the cry on the streets regarding a certain abuse of incumbency and tagging many senior government functionaries as corrupt. In 2016, when the cry for change was akin to the cry of independence from colonial rule, corruption took centre stage, notably was the alleged over-bloated cost of infrastructure, and many more.

In 2024, the situation seems different. No one is accusing government of abusing incumbency, and none is able to tag the pro-government candidate as Corrupt.

I am not sure this situation is because there haven’t been alleged corruption in this NPP-led administration. There have been wild allegations, some borne out of propaganda and mischief, I must admit.

I am convinced that it’s simply down to the candidature of Dr. Bawumia. We have seen the most active vice president in the 4th Republic, who, for the first time in history, is being blamed for the challenges of the Ghanaian economy. Clearly, notwithstanding how active DMB has been in the governance in the last eight years, he has come out unscathed from the claws of the “sweetness of corrupt practices”.
The opposition’s decision not to capitalise on corruption, I think, is simply because DMB is incorruptible, and no matter how you look at it, he still stands tall on the corruption discussion! Any attempt to tag him as corrupt, the opposition knew, was going to backfire bigly!

It is difficult to say same for his closest opponent, JM, when the same topic is raised!

And for me, I believe if I have to take a chance on any of the two leading candidates, based on the fight against corruption, it will be an easy and clear choice; DMB!
