Pritave Legal practitioner and senior member of the Convention People’s Party(CPP), Lawyer Kwame Jantuah has berated President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for not fulfilling his duty to the satisfaction of Ghanaians in the fight against galamsey.
Many individuals, civil society organisations, public institutions and advocates have expressed their disappointment in the President for escalating the galamsey activities in the local communities that have destroyed most water bodies.
During a discussion on Joy Prime on the fight against galamsey, Lawyer Kwame Jantuah urged the President to ban galamsey and small-scale mining altogether.
He added that although small-scale mining involves money and offers employment to the people, it needs an immediate reset.
“Is this what Ghana should be? If for anything the president came to us and say am ready to ban small-scale mining and all these for a certain duration, let’s see how we’ll reset this small-scale mining. There’s money to be made, there is employment in there. Let’s see how we’ll reset it and in resting it, let’s bring everybody together to decide how to move forward”, he advocated.
