Abusua sets the record straight on perceived feud with Agya Koo

Actor Abusua recently spoke out on One Ghana TV to set the record straight about rumours of a supposed feud with fellow Kumawood actor Agya Koo, describing it as nothing more than public speculation.

“I have no issue with Agya Koo,” he affirmed, emphasizing that any perceived tension is unfounded. His words reflect the respect and camaraderie that often exists within the Kumawood film industry, where actors understand and share in the challenges unique to their craft.

Kumawood, which once thrived as a key player in African cinema, known for its authentic cultural storytelling and humour, has faced tough times in recent years. Financial constraints, industry shifts, and evolving viewer interests have all contributed to a downturn in production.

Like many Kumawood actors, Abusua has experienced these challenges firsthand, forcing him to return to his original trade as an electrician to make ends meet, despite his fame.

In his interview, Abusua also expressed admiration for former President John Dramani Mahama’s support for the creative sector, noting that Mahama’s leadership brought “visible improvements” and ongoing support for elderly and struggling actors.

Reflecting on what he sees as a gap in the current administration’s efforts, Abusua remarked, “Under Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia, we haven’t seen the same level of commitment.”

Mahama’s legacy of supporting the arts has resonated with many in Kumawood, especially those struggling to find work amid the industry’s challenges. For Abusua, Mahama’s example represents the kind of backing needed to rejuvenate the industry, supporting actors, directors, and crew who have faced economic difficulties over the years.
