2024 Election: CODEO to deploy 4,000 observers nationwide, says Kojo Asante

The Coalition for Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has announced plans to deploy 4,000 observers across the country for the upcoming 7 December elections.

CODEO is a member of the Global Network of Domestic Election Monitors (GNDEM), and thus subscribes to the “Declaration of Global Principles for Non-Partisan Election Observation and Monitoring by Citizen Organizations.”

The observers will be deployed as Rapid Response Observers (RROs) to a representative sample of polling stations located in all 275 constituencies across the 16 regions of the country.

Speaking during the launch of Asaase’s Election Nerve Centre– official coverage of the 2024 election on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (31 July), Kojo Asante of the CODEO Secretariat said other initiatives will be rolled out to counter disinformation and misinformation.

“Come election time we will deploy up to 4,000 observers across the country and as we have done in previous elections since 2008, we will deploy the parallel vote tabulation that will allow us to independently verify the presidential results as well.”

“And we have other complementary interventions around disinformation and misinformation with other civil society organisations because we think that is also going to be a big challenge,” Asante said.
